Celebrating VE Day Together

A Wonderful Day at the Newport & Carisbrooke VE Day Community Event

We had a fantastic time yesterday at the Newport and Carisbrooke Community VE Day Event on June 14th! It was a real pleasure to bring along Restore The Story’s local history exhibition, and even more of a joy to meet so many passionate and curious visitors throughout the day.

Steve and Jo were on hand to share some of the fascinating stories and discoveries we’ve gathered through our work across the Island. We were especially thrilled to be introduced to new local memories, family stories, and even a few previously unseen photographs – contributions that will help us deepen and enrich the narrative of our shared history.

What made the day so special was the response from the community – everyone seemed genuinely excited to explore the exhibition, ask questions, and share their own experiences. Whether it was someone remembering wartime Newport or young visitors seeing a piece of local heritage for the first time, the feedback was heartfelt and encouraging.

A huge thank you to the organisers for such a warm and welcoming event – and to everyone who came to speak with us. We’re already looking forward to the next opportunity to Restore the Story with you.

Stay tuned for updates as we begin to explore some of the new leads and stories that came out of the day. Onwards!
