Restore the Story Returns to the 1940s Experience at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway
We are delighted to announce that Restore the Story CIC will once again be exhibiting at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway’s popular 1940s Experience on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 July 2026.
This fantastic annual event transforms Havenstreet Station into a wartime scene, bringing together military vehicles, living history groups, vintage fashion, music and displays that help tell the story of Britain during the Second World War. It is always one of the highlights of the Island’s heritage calendar, and we are thrilled to be returning.
As in previous years, we will be bringing a special exhibition exploring aspects of the Isle of Wight’s wartime history. Visitors can expect fascinating stories, original artefacts, historic photographs and the opportunity to discover more about the people and places that shaped the Island during the conflict.
However, this year we have something particularly exciting to share.
Over the past few months, we have been working behind the scenes on a project that has left us absolutely thrilled. It involves a genuine piece of Isle of Wight history with a remarkable wartime connection, and we cannot wait to place it on public display.
For now, we’re keeping the details under wraps.
What we can say is that it is an item that many thought would never return to the Island, and it represents one of the most exciting historical acquisitions we have been able to make as a Community Interest Company.
