Steynewood Battery After Dark – A Special Evening Torchlight Tour
As the 2026 tour season draws to a close, we have one final visit to Steynewood High Angle Battery planned, but this time we’re doing things a little differently!
On Tuesday 27 October at 7pm, Restore The Story CIC will be returning to this fascinating Victorian fortification in Bembridge for a special evening torchlight tour.
Steynewood is an unusual place to visit at any time, but experiencing it after dark offers a rather different perspective. The fading daylight, underground magazines and torchlight will help create a different atmosphere as we explore the site and uncover more of its history.
The tour will follow the familiar route, looking at the Battery’s origins, its role in the defence of the Solent, and some of the fascinating features that make this such an interesting place to explore. We’ll also be introducing some additional stories and a little extra lighting to make the evening something special.
Although we’re holding the event during the Halloween period, this isn’t a traditional Halloween attraction. Instead, it’s an opportunity to experience a remarkable historic military site in a different setting, with the history itself remaining very much at the heart of the tour.
Steynewood Battery is a private site and is not generally open to the public, so visits like these offer a rare opportunity to discover somewhere that many people may not even realise exists.
This will be our final Steynewood tour of the year, and we’re looking forward to bringing the season to a close with something a little different.

Places are limited, and advance booking is essential. Our regular daytime tours have sold out this year, as did last year’s evening event, so we recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.
