Description

Explore one of the Isle of Wight’s most intriguing historic sites on this guided tour of the Needles New Battery, led by Steve and Jo from Restore The Story CIC.

Built in the late 19th century as part of Britain’s upgraded coastal defences, the New Battery later took on a remarkable new role during the Cold War as a secret rocket and missile testing site. It became a key location in Britain’s early space and weapons programmes, including the development of the Black Knight and Black Arrow rockets.

This tour uncovers the site’s transformation from military fortification to pioneering space-age research centre, set against the dramatic clifftop scenery of Alum Bay and the Needles.

Tours are delivered independently by Restore The Story CIC and operate alongside the National Trust’s historic Needles Battery sites.
