A Fantastic Weekend at the Havenstreet Steam Railway 1940s Event
This past weekend, we at Restore The Story CIC had a wonderful time at the 1940s event at Havenstreet Steam Railway – and what a memorable experience it was!
Even with periods of rain, the atmosphere remained lively and welcoming, with plenty of visitors undeterred by the weather. It was fantastic to see so many people getting into the spirit of the 1940s, creating a truly immersive and nostalgic experience.
Throughout the weekend, we had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with some fascinating individuals. Many shared stories from the wartime era – some their own, others passed down through family. These personal accounts brought the history of the 1940s to life in a truly powerful way, reminding us of the importance of preserving and sharing these memories.
We were also incredibly grateful to receive some wonderful donations of military items, kindly gifted by visitors who wanted to see them preserved and shared with the public. These items will be a valuable addition to our growing collection and will be included in future exhibitions, helping us tell even more stories of life during wartime.
We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the organisers for putting together such a well-run and engaging event. Their hard work and dedication created a meaningful experience for everyone involved.
One of the standout moments of the weekend was undoubtedly the Spitfire, which drew crowds and captured imaginations. It was an impressive sight and a real highlight of the event.
All in all, it was a successful and enriching weekend for us. We’re honoured to have been part of it and look forward to taking part in more events that celebrate and share our shared history.
Until next time,
Seve & Jo
The Restore The Story CIC Team
