History Comes Alive on Culver Down with Restore the Story CIC

What a fantastic day we had for our Walking History Tour of Culver Down yesterday evening with the brilliant Steve and Jo from Restore the Story CIC!

Despite a blustery breeze, the rain held off, and we were thrilled to welcome a great turnout of enthusiastic attendees – many of whom have joined us on previous tours. Their continued support and passion for local history truly bring these events to life.

Steve and Jo led us through the fascinating history of the Sandown Bay defences, revealing hidden stories and long-forgotten features of Culver Down’s military past. From the strategic position of the clifftop forts to the legacy of the barracks and batteries, the tour brought fresh insight into the vital role this area played in coastal defence.

The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive – thank you to everyone who joined us and shared their kind words. It’s always a joy to see familiar faces and meet new ones, all connected by a shared love for the Island’s rich heritage.
